About Us

Miezer Bijoux (mee-zer bee-joo) began in Kinderhook, NY in the Fall of 2004. Tracey bought strings of olive and pistachio pearls from a fantastic shop in Chatham, NY called The Handcrafters. Not long after that a helpful stranger gave her stringing wire and she carried an unfinished necklace around for a while, getting feedback. When the owner of The Handcrafters saw it she praised Tracey's natural eye for color and drew diagrams on a bag explaining how to finish the strand of beads. Tracey bought some tools and findings and finished the necklace and a pair of earrings. She made a handful of other pieces which also got a nice reaction. At the end of the week Tracey set out what she had made on the table at a Sushi restaurant to show her husband…and she sold 2 pieces and got 2 commissions on the spot!

We developed the company name around our beloved Siamese cat Zimmer. She was an angular Seal Point beauty with Sapphire Blue eyes. She always looked like she should wear gems. We had lost her earlier that Fall, and it seemed like a perfect way to memorialize her. Our graphic artist friend, Woof Designs, set her image for the ages in the Miezer Bijoux logo and having her there means she’s always close to us.

Following a relocation to Maryland, the business continues to grow every year and with it the joy of creating new pieces. Whether helping someone select a piece or custom creating their perfect gift, or just creating how the mood strikes, it's all great fun.
